Ways to Help

VOLUNTEER

Help support families in Maine by volunteering at the Portland Press Herald Toy Fund’s warehouse on Route 1 in Falmouth. Volunteers unpack, sort and bag gifts according to the age and gender of each child. Some people have volunteered for the toy fund for decades!

To sign up, download, print and complete the 2017 volunteer form and send it to:

Press Herald Toy Fund
PO Box 7310
Portland, ME 04112

We’ll contact you once we’ve processed your application and send information about when and where to show up.

BE A GROUP LEADER

Group leaders represent agencies and organizations that solicit applications from clients and community members who need assistance to access the fund.

Group applications are due early in the season. After we process the applications and pack the gifts, group leaders pick them up at our warehouse and bring them to distribution centers that are convenient for the recipients. There are many partners in this effort, including trucking companies and social service organizations. These groups do good work and are a joy to work with each year!

JOIN A FUNDRAISING EFFORT

Since the early days, groups of people have gathered together to raise money for the toy fund. Friends challenge each other to make a donation. Relatives pool their resources to donate as a family or in memory of a loved one. Community groups hold bake sales or benefit concerts. For many years, fifth-graders at Brown Elementary School in South Portland have held a penny drive for the cause. Donors names and dedications are published in the newspaper, at pressherald.com and on Facebook.

This year, #PortlandPotLuck on December 8, is attempting to set a record for the largest Pot Luck. Check it out, you can join in.

However you may help, let us know so that we can share your event. Every little bit helps bring joy to children from York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Androscoggin counties!
